What To Expect If This Your First

It may be overwhelming at the first, but take your time to explore features of a Horus.  One of the best features of the Horus is its full telemetry capability, as well as RSSI signal strength feedback, there are 3 different programmable failsafe modes and receiver lock, so no more crashes due to selecting the wrong model. If you have stock in other brand receivers or B&F’s, no worries the Horus has a JR style RF module slot, so you have the option of other brand modules such as the Orange DSM2/DSMX or Open LRS 433mhz module. An inbuilt GPS module helps your model know where you are at all times, making it easier to return to you.

What To Expect

The AOMWAY FPV 200mW 700TVL can get hot with a 3s LiPo.  We had tested it with a 2s and 3s LiPo with no issues. It did not broadcast any sound during our test.  The stock range at 200 mW is 1.2km and by changing the antennas on both ends, you can reached upto 3 km.  There seem to be distinctive vertical lines appearing on the broadcast.

Camera

The camera is a 700 TVL camera, with a 170 degree field of view.  The focus range 6 feet +, does not focus well at closeup.  See video for results.

Things you might need to know

  • Input voltage 6-28V
  • Powering plug is JST
  • Antenna connector is a SMA, if you use to use your own

Radiolink CP620 750W 30A Hybrid Balance Charger

There are over a hundred lithium polymer (LiPo) battery balance chargers in the market, but not much has changed for a while, the same user interface and the same programming codes reused.   Radiolink is among the few that has taken the lead to change electric radio control (RC) with the CP620 hybrid charger and rethinking how to improve efficiency and low consumption in todays RC  ■ by dronemission.com

radiolink-cp620.jpg

First Impression,  an interesting charge methodology.  The CP620 starts charging through the main power cable with the maximum 30A in series at the suitable charge rate, once any cell is fully charged, it will then automatically changed to the independent balance charge mode charging through the balance port.  This increases the charge efficiency.  With a charge current of 30A, you have a maximum current of 6A for each cell to optimize the charge.

DeviationTX Walkera Devo Transmitter Hacking

One of the best kept secret of a Walkera transmitter is the ability to support multiple protocols using deviationtx firmware. So if you are flying a selection of models, such as e-Flite Carbon-Z, Walkera F210, Blade QX, Yuneec Typhoon, Parkzone Micro Warplane, Spektrum DSM2 plane, JJRC Tarantula x6 or Hubsan X4; you can turn your affordable Devo transmitter into a power house that supports multiple protocols, all you need is the provided Walkera USB transmitter cable.

x350-premium-osd.jpg

Specification:
The Deviation hacking project supports multiple protocols without any modifications to the transmitter:
● Devo 6/7e/8/10/12/F12e WK2401/WK2601/WK2801
● DSM2/DSMX JR, Spektrum, Turnigy
● Nine Eagles J6 Pro (with telemetry module)

It also supports other popular protocols with easy transmitter modifications
● Turnigy 9X
● Hubsan X4
● V202
● Skyartec
● Tactic SLT/Anylink
● Hisky

What’s more, you can store up-to 255 different models and you can select the transmitter power up-to 150mW.  Easily setup multiple customized timers, for example countdown and total time stopwatch.

We began our transition to Deviation when we were looking to purchase an external OrangeRX DSMX/DSM2 2.4Ghz transmitter module for our FrSky Taranis and realized we can do it for free with a Devo 10 on hand.

Pros:
1) Free and easy to upgrade
2) Programmable timers, scales, curves, failsafe, personalized icons, etc.
3) Stores 255 models in different protocols instead of 30 models on devo protocol only
4) Output power: long range 150mW power instead of 100mW limitation
5) Easy backup and reversible to Devention firmwares

+ Plus: We always had difficulty recovering in mid-air while flying a Walkera QR x350 with the stock firmware, but with Deviation you can overwrite the throttle warning messages, resume connectivity without bringing down your throttle.

Cons:
1) Setting up Dual Rates 3 way switches and exponential curves took a few more steps.  Best way to learn is to download sample models from the forum and try them.  Don’t get intimated, I suggest you take your time to learn it and will love this conversion.

Notes:  When you change between DSMX and Devo receiver, make sure you reassign the SRC Channels 1 & 3, Elevator and Throttle are switched around.  Make sure no props are in place when you first test your setup or be prepared to stop your model from flying, if you forgot to assign these channels properly.  A warning message may show 3% channel error.

Devo Receiver Channel Map
1-Ele
2-Ail   (Expo 20% as an example)
3-Thr  (with Safety Switch RUDD D/R)
4-Rud
Switch = Devo = Deviation = Cleanflight
Mix switch = Gear = Gear = Aux 1
FMOD switch = Flap = Ch 6 = Aux 2
Gear switch = Aux2 = !Ch 7 = Aux 3
RUDD D/R switch = Aux3 = !Ch 8 = Aux 4

On Devo 10, AUX4 default setting is AUX4 knob, AUX5 default setting is AUX5 knob.

Walkera Receivers

You may have to clear and rebind existing receivers with fixed ids.  If you change the number channels of a model, you may have to rebind.

When you create a new model, make sure you go to Mixer, set Throttle Simple SRC = THR, before binding. Check the rest of the channel AIL. ELE and RUD assigned to the right source too.  Be careful of throttle when binding, just in case you had it reversed.   Set a safety switch to your throttle, example set Safety = RUD DR0, Safe Val = -100.  A good old fashion technique, a safety switch disables the throttle so you don’t accidentally bump the throttle.

Eachine TX250 Mini 250mw 5.8G 40CH

If you are looking for an ultra light 250mw AV Transmitter Module for your racing drone, the Eachine TX250 Mini weighs only 8 grams and just slightly larger than an American quarter.  This transmitter  is able to receive 40 channels with the raceband channels, a perfect size for any model aircrafts requiring something small and light.

eachine-vtx250-miniweight.jpg

During a race, the ability to change to an assigned video frequency easily is important.  No more dip switch, a long press on the button changes the frequency group and a short press on the button changes the channels.

What Comes to Mind
Beginners, Racing Drones, Weight Matters, Budget under USD $20 (2016)

What To Expect If This Your First
It will feel relatively hot after 5 minutes, on the other hand this is quite common for tiny video transmitters. With the amount of heat generated, it should be placed outside where you can get as much airflow. Another option is if you can fit a tiny heatsink on it. Always keep the antenna attached, as it helps dissipate some of the heat. Don’t remove the plastic wrap, it is there to prevent accidental contact with another component. Typically the vtx are manufactured to withstand a signicant amount of heat, so not much to worry, just follow the suggested common sense best practice.

There is a misprint on the label listing it as 32 channels instead of 40 channels.

The Eachine TX250 Mini can support a wide range of batteries from 7 volts to 26 volts (2s-6s LiPo) on a JST connector. Even though the vtx supports 2s-6s, a jst cable is more suitable for a 2s LiPo battery.

You will need a RHCP receiver antenna to match the transmitter, Banggood did not label them and should take the time to label circular antennae to stop the guessing game. If you not sure, open it up following this guide: Is This Antenna LHCP or RHCP Can I tell? Circular polarization

Range Test Results and Performance
TBD, we will take it up on a plane or hexacopter and find it’s range limit.

Eachine LCD5802D 5802 40CH 7 Inch FPV Monitor DVR

When you are out flying, recording your flights is a way to recover an aircraft, in an event of an engine failure. The Eachine LCD5802D 5802 is the next generation of budget first person view (FPV) monitors that gets better each time, putting it’s competitors (Lumenier, Skyzone) in a tough spot.  It is light and easy to carry.  I am really excited about this monitor, as it has every function we need to monitor our flights at dronemission.com.  The Eachine 5802D LCD monitor comes with diversity antennas, DVR and 40 channels auto search, all three functions I would look for on a new FPV monitor.

Eachine-LCD5802D-FPV-reviewFirst impression, every FPV pilot needs a DVR,  with a DVR function, you can record your flight footage along with your On Screen Display information.  This will allow you to playback, analyze your flight footage or to recover a lost model.  The Eachine LCD5802D comes built-in dual receiver for best reception, allows you to place two types of antenna to provide the clearest picture in a variety of flying conditions. With dual buffered Audio Video (AV) outputs, you can connect a pair of google directly or an external monitor.   It is capable of receiving 5 Bands and a total 40 Channels to cover all the transmitter known today and to stay compatible with new or old video transmitters.  You can easily switch between channels with a one key signal search and the auto scan is fast!.

What To Expect If This Your First
You spend about 3 minutes to setup, just mount on a standard tripod, power on and you are ready to search for the next active channel. The scan is fast, but once you found the right band, continue to compare the clearest reception between channels.

The LCD is super bright, with sun shade you can see the screen easily.  Press once to Start recording and press the same button to Stop and save your recorded video.

With a fully charged battery, the Eachine LCD5802D can last 3 hours.  You can use a standard tripod 1/4 inch to mount this FPV monitor.
